This is a charming Kashmir chain stitch rug which dates from around 1900. The rug has been lovingly hand stitched using a technique of looping chain stitch together to create the rug, very similar to crewel work and common in Northern India and other nearby areas. it has a traditional design akin to those of chinese or tibetan carpets with a soft green field and round central medallion and quite deep borders.
